Melanie said ‘To win Crufts is a dream come true, it is what we all hope to win one day, and to win at this level the dogs have to be in peak condition. A combination of quality feed, exercise, and body management, which is where Rachel Molloy comes in as a valuable part of our team’.

Three-and-a-half-year-old Viking the Australian Shepherd has been visiting Rachel a local McTimoney Animal Chiropractor and Massage Therapist since 2023.

Rachel said “Viking is an active, playful dog who enjoys racing around with his friends. This active lifestyle can contribute to muscular tension and skeletal misalignment. To perform at his best, and against some of the best dogs in the World, Viking must stand out, the judge is looking for perfection. In the months leading up to Crufts I have worked with his owners regularly to ensure he is in peak physical condition; I gave him a maintenance check-up and treatment at the beginning of Crufts week. Checking his musculature and the alignment of his spine and pelvis helps ensure optimum health, movement, posture, soundness, and performance. Viking moves with such grace and has a powerful balanced stride. His skeletal alignment and muscular health are essential to avoid any deviation or asymmetry in his posture and movement and allows him to show off his natural paces. The McTimoney technique is very gentle and precise, and Viking is very relaxed throughout. Massage therapy complements chiropractic perfectly providing a holistic treatment”.

Rachel watched the TV coverage of Crufts and said “I simply couldn’t believe what I was seeing, I was stunned. This beautiful dog I have the privilege of treating was being awarded the most prestigious award that there is! Crufts Best in Show is something every dog breeder and owner must dream of. I was in total shock and sent Mel his owner and handler a message of congratulations straight away. I re-watched the coverage, shed a few tears of happiness, and was on a high for several days, I was so proud.

Viking has not let his success go to his head and since his victory, he has visited his local pub, Birmingham Dogs Home, and a local nursing home where he was met with much excitement. He has also appeared on BBC Midlands Today with his owner Melanie.

Rachel saw Viking last week for a check-up post Crufts and before he travelled to America to compete. She told us “He was his normal happy-go-lucky self and very excited to come in for his treatment, my daughter even came to see him and congratulate him with some well-deserved chewy bones”.

Rachel said, “It is a true honour to be a part of his team helping to keep Viking in tip-top condition”.
