The McTimoney Animal Association are delighted to announce a free webinar on the 1^st February 2021, providing an hour of CPD for all professionals in the veterinary industry.

The utilisation of rehabilitative and complementary physical therapies within the animal industry has grown exponentially in the last 20 years with many vets and therapists working together to achieve the best outcomes for their clients through collaborative interventions. As the McTimoney technique has increased in popularity, we are seeing more studies emerge which show the effectiveness of this technique.

This webinar is intended to provide you with a clear and informative overview of how chiropractic works and the researched benefits of chiropractic care both as a prehabilitative and a rehabilitative modality. We seek to dispel common myths about chiropractic, such as bones being ‘out’, and instead, will explain in clear and unequivocal terms what it is that the McTimoney practitioner is assessing and treating. Case studies are included to demonstrate the use of animal chiropractic care and questions are invited from attendees.

The speakers for this webinar are Nikki Routledge MSc MMAA, Vanessa Davidson MSc MMAA, Sally Charlton Msc MMAA and Dr Emma Punt from The McTimoney Animal Association, (MAA), an independent regulatory body with 130 members in the UK and Ireland. All members hold a PGDip or MSc in Animal Manipulation (Chiropractic) from the McTimoney College of Chiropractic, fulfil 75 hours of CPD over 3 years in a similar format to that of the RCVS, and comply with the Veterinary Surgeons Act (1966) and Veterinary Surgeons Exemptions Order (2015). Members of the MAA abide by a code of ethics and standards of proficiency as well as being fully insured to treat animals. Registered members can be found at www.mctimoneyanimal.co.uk. The MAA promotes excellence in animal chiropractic care and works hard to develop peer reviewed, scientific evidence of the therapeutic effects of McTimoney treatment on animals working alongside the McTimoney College of Chiropractic.

Our Speakers:

Nikki Routledge

Nikki Routledge MSc MMAA, is a qualified McTimoney Animal Practitioner who has been treating competitive and pet horses and dogs in South West England for over 18 years. Nikki also enjoys teaching students at the McTimoney College of Chiropractic, being able to pass on the knowledge and skills which have given her such a varied and interesting career working with so many animals and their owners, to a new generation of animal chiropractic practitioners. Nikki says “Every day is different and every animal I see is an individual, and that makes my work rewarding…. I hope to continue working and teaching for many years to come”. 

Vanessa Davidson

Based in Somerset, Vanessa Davidson is an active McTimoney Animal Practitioner, maintaining a small client base treating primarily horses and dogs. Vanessa has also taught, managed and written educational programmes over the past 20 years. Vanessa enjoys being involved in the education of practitioners, and being able to advocate the importance of maintaining and improving standards in education to ensure the highest quality of work once qualified. Vanessa is also involved in the McTimoney Animal Association with whom practitioners register with upon graduation. Vanessa says: “I am passionate about opportunities for lifelong learning and am dedicated to furthering the presentation of evidence based research to promote the benefits of the McTimoney technique. I love combining my passion for treating animals with teaching the technique to others”.

Dr Emma Punt

Dr Emma Punt has over 15 years’ experience as a McTimoney therapist specialising in Equine and Canine therapy and rehabilitation. With a first degree and PhD plus post-doctoral research experience from The University of Birmingham Emma is now one of the College’s Senior Tutors examiners and research supervisors. Emma has also worked with Jaguar Land Rover helping to develop a new safer towing technology and is the Research Lead for BARTA (British Animal Rescue and Trauma Care Association) pioneering research with Nottingham Trent University into equine transportation. In addition Emma has worked in Europe treating horses, running performance clinics and supporting research projects.

Sally Charlton

Sally Charlton MSc, MMAA has always had a passion for animals and science and has managed to combine the two during her career. She has worked in managerial and technical advisory positions in the animal feed industry in the UK, South Africa and Canada with a special interest in animal nutrition. She has written and published three nutritional books that have been sold worldwide. Over the last 9 years, Sally has enjoyed working with clients and their animals as a McTimoney Animal Practitioner based in Staffordshire. She has continued her scientific learning through practice and her enthusiasm for research that led to her role with the MAA, supporting the publication and presentation of 18 research abstracts (including her own research). Sally loves sharing her knowledge with others.

McTimoney is a form of chiropractic manipulation used to treat pain and dysfunction of the musculoskeletal system. It predominantly focuses on optimising alignment of the spine and pelvis in order to restore correct function of the skeletal system, nervous system and surrounding soft tissue. The technique is non-invasive and gentle and is readily accepted by animals. The treatment aims to resolve dysfunction and balance the animal’s musculoskeletal system, restoring health and movement, soundness and performance.
