⭐ The importance of qualification of practitioners & working as part of a Vet lead team ⭐Meet Nala, 8 years old, Welsh X New Forest, mare rehomed from the Welsh Mountains in 2016.Nala was seen by us here at EEC Therapies for maintenance treatment after seeming a bit uncomfortable in her ridden work and in her hindend. Following a thorough history taking and gait assessment it was decided treatment was appropriate and so was given. After this an improvement was seen in Nala's ridden work and general physical wellbeing.Nala's owner then asked for another appointment before the planned follow up session. Nala had an accident and just wasn't quite right again! This time assessment revealed a more significant discomfort in her hind-end with her right hind-limb coming up shorter and appearing obviously stiff. She also looked short and stuffy in her front limbs with some toe drag showing in gait and her hoof wear. Treatment was deemed not appropriate due to the changes and symptoms that were presenting. Nala was referred back to the Vet for a full work up to find the cause of these symptoms.Nala has since been diagnosed with arthritis in her right hock joint and both forelimb fetlocks. The Vet has agreed that treatment to help her be more comfortable can now continue. The treatment Nala receives now will be adapted to ensure Nala's needs are met, without putting any additional strain on the affected joints. Working with the Vets there is now a treatment plan in place ensuring Nala has the best care from the WHOLE of her team.Training as an animal chiropractor and soft tissue therapist has taken 2.5 years post graduate study on Masters (MSc), following a previous undergraduate degree. This level of study ensures that all of our clients horses receive the best care available. The training and knowledge learnt during this time means that no horse will ever be treated without it being the appropriate course of action. You wouldn't let an unqualified Doctor/Physiotherapist/Massage therapist or Chiropractor treat you so why would you do this to your animal? Qualification ensures that standards of care are high, and maintained. Your practitioner should always be up to date with current legislation & continued training/education which is carried out through CPD. Membership with appropriate registers & associations who also monitor and regulate this. These include but arent limited to AHRP, RAMP & MAA ( McTimoney Animal Association ) .You should always check your practitioner is qualified, as if we had continued to treat Nala without a diagnosis it could have increased her discomfort and been detrimental to her well being and physical health. ...
